Capps Takes Two to Win
Great Southern Billiard Tour / Charlotte, NC
by Skip Maloney
Brian Capps wrapped up an undefeated weekend with two back-to-back wins over Mike Fuller at the Great Southern Billiard Tour stop March 7-8. The $1,500-added, A-B handicapped amateur event drew 70 entrants to Paradise Billiards in Charlotte, NC.
From among the winners’ side final four, Fuller had sent Mike Basha to the one-loss side with an 11-5 win, as Capps sent Josh Newman over 9-6. Capps was left in the hot seat after he got by Fuller for the first time.
On the one-loss side, Josh Roberts and Kenny Wilson were waiting for Basha and Newman. Roberts defeated Basha 9-5, as Wilson battled to a hill-hill win over Newman. Roberts then defeated Wilson 9-2 in the quarterfinals to take on Fuller. Roberts’ bid for a shot in the finals ended there, though, as Fuller battled to an 11-8 victory.
For Capps, it was his second trip to a GSBT final in eight days, having been one of the final two standing at a tour stop in Greenwood, SC, the week before. Determined not to repeat his second place finish there, Capps battled to double-hill and took the opening set of the true double-elimination finals to bring home the first-place prize.
