Larry "The Truth" Nevel keeps on winning on the Great Southern Billiard Tour.
On the June 21-22 weekend, Larry “The Truth” Nevel went undefeated and won his second straight victory on the Great Southern Billiards Tour, defeating tour director Shannon Daulton in the finals. The $1,500-added event at Shooters in Greensboro, NC, drew 30 entrants. Three weeks prior, it had been an undefeated Daulton who’d interrupted a three-week winning streak by Nevel.
Earlier Sunday, Nevel and Daulton sent Scott Lewis and Jeff Pruitt to the one-loss side, respectively, allowing them to win only three games between them. They then squared off in the hot seat match, won by Nevel 9-6.
On the one-loss side of the bracket, it was Adam Hendley and Nick Varner who advanced to meet Lewis and Pruitt. Hendley advanced from there with a 9-3 win over Pruitt, but Varner dropped into fifth place with a 9-6 defeat at the hands of Lewis. Hendley then dropped Lewis into 4th place and turned to face Daulton in the semifinals. Daulton dropped Hendley 9-6 and headed into his second double-elimination finals in a month against Nevel.
The two struggled back and forth through the first five games of the opening set, with Nevel out in front by a single game 3-2. Daulton took command at that point, running the next 7 racks and closing out the opening set 9-3. In another reversal of fortunes, at 1-1 in the second set, Nevel ran his own 7 straight racks to reach hill first. Daulton came back to win the next two, but Nevel closed it out by winning the last game and duplicating the 9-3 score that had bested him in the opening set.
